Doris Cacoilo and Meredith Whitefield Goncalves present “Liquid Gold” at _gaia studio Friday, March 6th – April 30th, 2015. Come support them and see their latest works.

Meredith Gonçalves investigates women’s relationships with breastfeeding their babies while maintaining their careers. The subjects thus far are artists, scientists, media professionals and marketers and often the financial head of their households. The artist photographs the women actively pumping milk in order to desexualize the female body to address the labor and dedication of this practice.

Doris Caçoilo explores the ongoing role of her body as a source of food and comfort for her growing son. Using photo transfer prints on wood, Doris’ images explore the intimacy, humor and connection in these frequent moments of nursing. The nature of the digital selfie transforms into a permanent and fixed record of these fleeting moments that are numbered as the artist’s son will soon ween from this source of comfort and nourishment.
