First of all.. I have learned that I take the internet for granted! There had been at least a dozen times in these two days that I have said to my grandmother “I wish I had access to the internet so I could show you something!” (I could have shown her on my phone but she’s blind in one eye) I finally have gotten one of her friends to allow me to sit outside her condo and hack her internet and since I only have so much time with my grandmother, I will make this brief so I can go spend some more time with her..
I MADE IT ALIVE.. Yay!! (I’m already nervous for the trip home)
Follow our adventures on twitter @c_ristinesara_ … I’m not great at twitter but I’m trying to tweet as much as possible so that everyone can see what we’re up to! If you want to suggest anything for us to think about photographing or ask her anything feel free to tweet at me? (like do that @myname thing so I can see it.)
We’ve run into complications. Like I mentioned. My grandmother is blind in one eye from an accident when she was younger. It’s her left eye which is the one photographers normally use for looking through the view finder. Also, she can not bend like she used to. She keeps saying “I can’t get the angle I want!” so we’re trying to find ways around it.
The first day she didn’t even go through one roll. I got really nervous. We went to Hollywood beach and walked around and she was having fun but not too interested in photographing. Today, the second day, we were sitting and talking about what she should be photographing. I told her to photograph anything and everything (I want a lot to choose from). More specifically, I told her I want to see through her eyes, I want her to tell the story of her life through these images. Every minute we spend together I am learning more about her. It’s so amazing! She came to life today after photographing some children playing at the park. I have never seen her so exhilarated! She went through two rolls already today and we have plans to see an oldies rock band later this evening so hopefully we’ll go through even more.
There will be no photographs of doilies but there will be a ton of trees. She’s in love with trees. I guess we’re both a little odd. You’ll get to meet Grandma tomorrow. Her name is Geraldine but we call her Gerry for short.
p.s. I met her boyfriend Ronnie today. He’s a hunk and a New Yorker! 😉 I’ll tell you all more about him next week!
Warm Regards from the Sunshine State! All the old people are talking about the cold front thats coming, the temperature is dropping down to 65! 😉 STAY WARM!
