Spills on the New York Times, new drawings

"blowouts," Spills on The New York Times, #6 (detail) © Lindsey Muscato, graphite on paper, 22 x 24 inches, 2011

This is a detail from a new drawing for the Spills on The New York Times series. In this drawing, I’m working with a coffee spill over a large printed photo of the burning Horizon rig in the Gulf. The photograph is printed in color, with billowing reds and orange and yellow explosions, dark smoke. For me, this drawing is functioning very differently than the drawings where I am spilling over text sections of the newspaper.

I welcome feedback, if anyone has comments or thoughts on the new work.
