Root System

The fourteenth edition of the Wonder Women Residency Project called Root System asks artists to propose and create artworks as part of a thematic project developed through weekly group meetings over two months. The cohort of ten artists will discuss their ongoing projects, philosophies and processes surrounding the projects and planning for installation and performance. The residency will culminate in an outdoor exhibition at Wildflower Sculpture Park in South Mountain Reservation in September 2026.

Every night has been a late one since we arrived. And since we’re almost done here, with the exhibition opening tomorrow, I’m sure tonight will be no exception. One mantra has been running through my mind as I think about … Continue reading
more spills, drawing and a paper from 1967
It was a day of slow progress. The truth is, drawing, and thinking, and responding takes time. But all of this has been incredible, and I’m so excited to continue to explore and experiment with the works to come back … Continue reading

First post from Cyprus
Cyprus has been incredible, already. I have barely begun to get my bearings. The food is incredible. It is wonderfully hot, with warm winds, beating sun, and gorgeous cool breezy evenings. We met with the full group of artists and … Continue reading

coffee spills on The New York Times, studies for 365 Days of Print
www.365daysofprint.com/category/march-artist/lindsey-muscato/ I wanted to invite everyone to see the smaller studies I’ve been doing for the 365 Days of Print blog this month. They are a quicker, sketchier version of the works I began for the residency. Most of them … Continue reading
Spills on the New York Times, new drawings
This is a detail from a new drawing for the Spills on The New York Times series. In this drawing, I’m working with a coffee spill over a large printed photo of the burning Horizon rig in the Gulf. The … Continue reading

Spills on The New York Times
These drawings are studies of the newspaper as an object. I am looking at the newspaper with nostalgia, depicting the printed broadsheet in a moment between being commonplace and disposable and becoming an obsolete artifact, part of the morning ritual … Continue reading
In my new spill drawings I have changed the scale of the coffee stains, which results in less readable text content. I was interested to see how this decision has shifted the emphasis away from an abbreviated article, and more onto each individual word … Continue reading
