This week I pushed my painting further and incorporated a lot of the ideas that we discussed. All of your the excellent comments helped me visually express the research I have been doing. I played around with scale and segments of canvas using the hatch patterns to pull it together. I’ve also been thinking about my next several steps: 1. the abstract representation of the movement of water; 2. a structural frame for this oversized painting that integrates the work and enhances its sense of depth; 3. the power of ten, zooming out from my square foot of earth using geologic and superfund maps; and 4. a buildable and inhabitable soil boring constructed of hula hoops and netting – or would that be boring art?!
