I missed you all today

Hi ladies,

I’m so sorry I missed our meeting today. I got into Manhattan and turned around and went home because I felt so lousy. I’ve had some kind of cold/flu for a couple of days. I really wanted to be there with you, but I probably would have infected everyone. I didn’t have phone numbers for anyone so hopefully Doris got the email I sent. I hated to miss one of our few meetings, especially when they’re so amazing. I’m glad I can at least comment on things on this blog.

I’m going to put together a list of all the names that I have collected so far for all of you to see. Is that cheating? I wanted to give you all a sneak peek at the names because it might be hard to see them all in the installation. I was going to show a sub-project that I’ve been working on with the envelopes. Like I said last week, I find the envelopes really personal and I want to do something with them. I started sewing them together in kind of a crazy wall hanging (this is where a digital camera would come in really handy). At first I was just stitching with red thread, but then the thread started to become a decorative element. I printed out some of the things that people have said to me in their emails and used snippets of text to hold the envelopes together–literally and figuratively. I’m picturing my project installed in a corner. The names will be hanging from the ceiling on fishing line. My dad is all excited about going with me on a field trip to a tackle shop to buy the weights for the bottom of the lines. Apparently they’re called sinkers. The names will be all mixed up on the lines–I want them to be pretty random. I see the sewn-together envelopes hanging in the corner itself, behind the columns of names. Again, I really need to invest in a digital camera so you can see what my ideas really look like.
