Meet Heleni, my first interaction with a Cypriot woman. She speaks only Greek and has lived in the old city of Nicosia for the last sixty years. Despite not knowing the language we were still able to communicate, mostly with a lot of smiles and some hand gestures. She will be the first model for “the polaroid project.” Much like “the obituaries” I am celebrating the life of women, only in this case they will be living Cypriot women. I intend to learn as much as I can about each of the women I meet and then I will take their picture using a polaroid camera. The instant print is a convenient tool for me to continue my embroidery process. My interaction with Heleni has proven to be a very valuable experience, I can’t wait until we meet again.
