A little help on shellacing

I am looking for a bit more info on adding that final layer of shellac and getting it really smooth. I found some
info on the web, but it’s always a bit different and I would like to hear some other suggestions. I have my
600 sandpaper and 0000 steel wool and some polishing wax so far. But would like some more input. On one I tried a “padding” technique, but the cloth was a bit to textured, and now it looks a bit like really old crackled shellac. I sort of like that though.
I also found out shellac is bug poop. I love it.
Anyway, thanks.
