In which ways do you see your project connected to the immigrant experience?
My simple interpretation of Fado is to tell the story of someone’s personal journey through life. Fadistas became the voice and the trend of a desperate time in what would be the soundtrack to the Portuguese immigrant way of life. The soft sounds of the mandolin followed by a heavy hearted voice singing about an ordinary life inspires a vivid mental image for each listener. My intention is to use that song to translate how each others lives are shaped in countries that are still largely unfamiliar to the immigrants that inhabit them.
