“Money is what money does”.<\/em> Aristoteles, Politik.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Capitalism has the power to corrupt in visible and invisible ways every single part of our existence. Lifestyles based on commodity, exchange and interest impact in tangible forms, the way individuals relate to each other. Emotional priorities might not be considered in terms of love, pleasure or care but rather in time, instant-satisfaction and convenience.<\/p>\n

In a system based on “interest”, “credit” and “convenience”, it is not strange to find in our social relations capitalistic words\/concepts\/attitudes\/structures tangled in between our interactions, feelings and dreams and taking over in they way we operate with the other.
\n<\/p>\n

Based on a scenario where social relations are already affected by the uncontrollable forces of capitalism: Am i subject to melt down too? Can i bailout myself when i crash? Do i trade feelings, like assets? How speculation works on my yet- unkown emotional stock market ? How do i assign value to my people, my feelings, my dreams?\u00a0 Are my feelings already commodified?<\/p>\n

During the financial crash on October 2008 i was living in New York. At the same time that the economy started melting down, my emotional system deal with some heavy losses, lack of trust, personal bailout mechanisms – besides other parallels with the crash-\u00a0 that made me realize about the arbitrariety in which my values appear and shift, establish and setttle or crash and dissapear.\u00a0 Materialism finally strucked me and for the first time, i realized that love was left behind, ignored and in danger of extinction, due to the take over of economic and politic values.. I always felt adressing political or economic problems was more interesting than talk about your self but then again.. when Love lost it’s importance versus money? Why not Love not Money.<\/p>\n

OUTPUT<\/strong><\/p>\n

For WW$ i would like to work graphing my emotional stock market. I’m interested in doing some embroidery, stiching the position of my everyday”interests”. Some values may crash on the way,\u00a0 other will remain high, other ones will dissapear.\u00a0\u00a0 I would like to\u00a0 use clothes i want to get rid of as canvas for the representation of this daily emotional market. However i might find other materials on the way. For the moment im focusing in collecting the data for my graphs.<\/p>\n

I’m interested in link this pieces with the idea of the a previous project called “Horizons”,<\/a> where im trying to address the beauty of the crisis as possibility for a new way if living, a new horizon to look for.<\/p>\n

Other considered output are some graffiti pieces around the Mexico City, using magnetic coins i’ve been producing. The pieces will be horizons created from horizontal lines founded on the public space. I would like to create some custom made coins too.<\/p>\n

I’m not sure about the final form of this piece, but im nterested in create an installation of many components: sounds, objects, coins, writting for instance, that can represent clearly the idea of emotional stock markets.<\/p>\n

PLAN OF ATTACK:<\/strong><\/p>\n

– First im graphing compulsevely my interests. The first weeks i want to focus in the collection of data to then experiment with embroidery, code or sound with that information.<\/p>\n

– The middle weeks of the residency i will graph my emotional market in the selected format, based on my tests with sound, stiching and coding.<\/p>\n
