\nFinding that this mission statement is hard to get into words. The birth of *f*Empower probably dates about year ago when I first started working in cosmetic packaging. It’s world that boasts so much beauty, and youth. And because we were working on high end accounts, all the products that we touched just screamed money & status. It’s still bizzarre for me to walk into Sephora and see our livelihood on the shelf, some selling at prices that I simply can’t afford. I’m also amazed at the volume of things that exist to conceal, age defy, moisturize, tone, cleanse, and fix a woman’s appearance. Before working in the “health & beauty” industry, I never paid much attention to cosemtics. Now that I work in them, I realise that they are everywhere in dozens of different brands boasting to make you “feel”, “look”, & “smell” more like a woman in everyway possible.<\/p>\n

*f*Empower really is a dialogue with myself about my reaction (and subsequent appropriation) to this beauty phenomenon. I think, that because we are so objectified, it is extremely hard for us, as women, to completely break the notion that empowerment for us does not somehow equal being the most beautiful. Men are allowed to exist in so many ways outside of body image (although it’s catching up to them in this youth crazed society).<\/p>\n

I want to see more women simply being women, and embracing our other wonderful qualities. (And, I think it’s interesting to note, the woman in charge of the entire Lauder cosmetic dynasty, does not often wear makeup herself these days.) *f*Empower is about women reclaiming the rawness of being women. We can be beautiful and not always be polished. We can own our bodies and be proud of them. I’m interested in the choice to primp. Or not.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
