The last couple of weeks has been two steps forward, one step back, but progress is being made. \u00a0I had a few set backs with some unsuccessful dyeing. \u00a0I vainly attempted to\u00a0force dye some polyester, but alas the polyester won that battle despite my valiant efforts (this was to be the skin of my ham). \u00a0So, I’ve changed the outer textile to a cotton canvas which has been dyed and will be embellished with some block printing. \u00a0It’s quite a different approach than using that velvety, bumpy material I had, but I think it will work. \u00a0I’ve also been scheming and sketching like a madwoman designing each slice of ham that will be on display. \u00a0Narrowing down what stories I want to tell with what visuals has been the hardest part as distilling down ideas always is for me. \u00a0I’ve been mulling two\u00a0of my favorite sculptors’ work for inspiration and process: \u00a0Tamara Kostinanovsky<\/a>\u00a0(check out her meat sculptures!) and Emilie Faif<\/a>\u00a0(Stephanie – you’ll love her!). \u00a0They both have strong work in fibers and soft sculpture which I highly admire.<\/p>\n
