So, after leaving the meeting on Sunday evening, I called my grandmother to let her know her role in this project has grown and explained to her the new concept. She seems very enthusiastic about the project still and excited about learning how to use the Canon AE-1 I gave her this summer. She was a little worried about how to figure the camera out on her own. She tells me “you know, I sent a letter to Canon requesting some information about this particular model, maybe even and manuel, and no one responded! It’s been about 2 months.” I couldn’t help but smile and think, people don’t send letters requesting things like that anymore because everything is on the internet. I ensured her that I could find a copy of the manuel as a PDF online and print her a copy to send to her.<\/p>\n
Yesterday I went to the post office and sent off a “learning package” (rather than a care package) including: a letter explaining the new project and giving her to “assignment”, the 2 parts of the camera manuel, a mini tripod to help in getting started, and a basic automatic 35mm camera I’ve had since I was an child that she can use as a backup if she can’t figure out the Canon. The one thing I forgot to enclose in this awkwardly shaped mailing envelope (priority envelopes were affordable and the post lady made it fit for me \ud83d\ude42 ) was the film. I gave my grandmother everything she needed to get started except the film, that I left in sitting in the film drawer of my refrigerator. So I am off to the post office now to send her the film and a prepaid envelope to send it back once she exposes it.<\/p>\n
In other news, I thought this would be a great chance for me to take the time out of my busy schedule to \u00a0take a trip down to the Sunshine State. I’ll bring an array of cameras so she can go wild and I can come home with the film and get down to work right away. So I booked a flight leaving Thursday February 9th. I will be missing the meeting on February 12th so grandma and I will skype in! Then I will return February 14th in time to see my loverboy for Valentine’s day. That’s probably the last time I’ll see him until the end of the residency since I’ll probably be sleeping in my darkroom to finish this project in time for the 26th.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
